Vacancy available at The Hathershaw College:

Start date: 1st September 2019 (1 year contract in the first instance)

Salary: Scale 4/5 Points 18-25 – Commences at £15,758 with annual increments to £19,209 (Starting pay dependent on experience)

To build upon the success of our Learning Support Faculty, we require an EAL Learning Support Assistant to support pupils for whom English is an additional language (EAL).

Candidates will ideally have experience of working with students in an educational environment and have an interest in working with vulnerable young people and/or a good understanding of language and learning development needs.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate initiative and work co-operatively in order to co-ordinate the induction of EAL learners throughout the year and support transition into a variety of mainstream classes that span the curriculum.

In the initial stages of the induction process, provision will consist of 1-2-1 support of EAL learners outside of the classroom, planning and using EAL resources and developing strategies to break down barriers to learning for these students. Once students are integrated into lessons, this support will continue on a 1-2-1/small group basis in the classroom.

The candidate will also liaise with members of SLT to advise on appropriate timetable planning for students following the initial induction period.

Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are essential as well as effective communication skills.

The candidate will work hard to promote inclusion and ultimately raise the achievement of EAL pupils.

Previous experience of such work would be an advantage.
